Abstract:

NWS offices (Weather Forecast Offices - WFOs) provide local hydrologic services. Because rivers may form the boundary between adjacent WFOs, to avoid ambiguity, boundaries for areas of responsibility for river forecasts and observations may differ somewhat from what are commonly known as County Warning Areas or CWAs. See CWA boundaries shapefile description at <http://www.weather.gov/geodata/catalog/wsom/html/cwa.htm>. These river-oriented boundaries define Hydrologic Service Areas (HSA). This data set specifies HSA boundaries, as defined by the NWS.

Purpose:

This data set specifies boundaries for WFO areas of responsibility when they provide services dealing specifically with rivers. In some cases, these boundaries may differ from the CWA boundaries used for most services provided by WFOs.
